|

| I installed Office 2007 yesterday, and am ready to go back to 2003 already. I cannot believe how long it takes to open up a document from internet explorer. In the past I would click on a document title on an eIRB web page, and almost instantly the document would open up in Word 2003. I have been timing how long it takes in Word 2007, and it varies from about 30 seconds for a two page document, to over 2 minutes for multi-page documents. By the way I have a 3.8 GHz processor, and 3.5 GB of RAM, so I doubt it is my computer that is causing the slowdown. So far I am not impressed, as I have now spent all morning doing tasks that in Word 2003 would have taken me less than a half an hour.

| I wonder if removing the Adobe PDF add-in would help? It's certainly speeded things up for me.

perl,
where is the slowness occuring? in the download, before word opens, after word opens?
i just tested opening a word doc from the site in both firefox and ie, and although not instantaneous, it only took about 5 seconds.
i've got a 3.4 p4 with 2gb of ram.
